Research In Profile

Professor Roula Hawa brings a unique interdisciplinary lens in health sciences, family studies and education, providing her with a strong background in application of social science theories to public health scholarship. She is a multi-method researcher with expertise in quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods research. Roula Hawa is a passionate educator and researcher who brings a deep commitment to social justice and an interest in mobilizing research and innovating university-community partnerships. She has an exciting and innovative program of research that is community-engaged with a focus on health equity, resilience and well-being of vulnerable populations, using arts-based and arts-informed inquiry methodologies, critical feminist, and anti-colonial frameworks.

Roula Hawa brings vast experience in community-based participatory research and intervention research and has worked with racialized and immigrant women and youth communities in Canada in the area of HIV prevention, resilience, mental health, stigma reduction, gender-based violence, and health promotion. She is the Principal Investigator of the YSMENA Study, a research program focused on resilience, sexual health, mental health and well-being of diaspora Middle Eastern and North African young adults in Canada. She is open to graduate student supervision and welcomes collaborations on projects with youth, students and allied practitioners.
