2024 Alumni of Distiction Award Recipient
Marley Fisher, BSc’17, Dip.’19
Marley Fisher, RD, CDE is Lunaape from Munsee-Delaware Nation. She was born and raised on her First Nation and also has Oneida, Chippewa, and Mexican ancestry. She received her Bachelor of Science in food and nutrition (2017) and her dietetic education and practical training diploma (2019) from Brescia University College. During her post-secondary education, Marley served as one of the youngest members of her First Nations Council from 2016-2020 and is a huge advocate for Indigenous health and healing. She has since been working as a community dietitian in Chippewa of the Thames First Nation where she offers one-on-one nutrition counselling services and nutrition/diabetes programming with an Indigenous lens.
Once starting her career in dietetics, Marley quickly noticed the gaps that existed in dietetics and Indigenous health which has fueled her passion and advocacy efforts for more culturally-relevant nutrition information and resources. She appeared on CTV’s The Social in 2023 in a segment called Indigenous Nutrition to educate the public on Indigenous peoples history with dietetics and share traditional Indigenous food knowledge. Marley has also contributed to various equity, diversity, and inclusion committees over the past 5 years. She stays connected to the Brescia family as an annual guest speaker for Master’s and Diploma students regarding working in Indigenous Health. One of her most recent projects include being an integral part of putting Indigenous cuisine on London hospital cafeteria menus earlier this year. Aside from her work in dietetics, Marley loves spending time with her family, learning her language, and continuing to seek out traditional food knowledge that has been lost to colonization.
