Aikido Club

Description

Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art known for its non-violent philosophy and self-defense applications dating back to the Samurai era of Japan. The Japanese characters (ai)合 (ki)気 (do)道 are understood as “The Way of Harmonious Spirit”. The founder Morihei Ueshiba, wanted to create an art that would not only defend oneself, but protect the attacker from any injury.

Aikido is a real-world applicable art. Our instructors place emphasis on joint lock, wrist and pinning techniques to defend against realistic potential dangers using the attackers’ momentum. In addition, the empty handed techniques extends to the aikido weapons techniques of the bokken (wooden sword), tantō (wooden short sword) and jō (Bamboo Staff).

By practicing Aikido, you will gradually learn how to be composed, focused and level headed in adverse situations along with better control of your physical movements. Interestingly, Aikido is one of the martial arts taught to the Tokyo police forces!

We are open to all skill and fitness levels! Come wearing comfortable clothes (no uniform required) that allow for plenty of movement and stretching while making new friends along the way!

About the President

Hi! My Name is Anne Campbell and I am the 2024-25 President of the 澳门六合彩开奖预测 Aikido Club. I am currently in my third year of Political Science and Sociology (formerly at Brescia University College). I started Aikido two years ago and through joining this Club at 澳门六合彩开奖预测 I have learned so much. I discovered Aikido through the Recreational Sports Clubs list, looking for a new and fun way to exercise during the year. Though I have only practiced Aikido for two years, I have learned from our encouraging instructors how to protect myself and understand the importance of self awareness and mindfulness. I am so excited for what we have planned this year, especially our visits to the Aiki Budo Centre, and to share everything I have learned with you all. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email us or connect with us on Instagram. I can’t wait to meet you all!
