There are a number of factors that can impact your eligibility to receive paid leave and Supplemental Employment Insurance Benefits (SEIB). Standard parental benefits can be paid for a maximum of 40 weeks. Neither parent can access more than 35 weeks in total and must generally be claimed within a 52-week period (12 months) after the week the child was born or placed for the purpose of adoption. Weekly benefit rate is 55% of your average insurable earnings up to a maximum payment of $573 per week (in 2020). Extended parental benefits can be paid for a maximum of 69 weeks. Neither parent can access more than 61 weeks in total and must generally be claimed within a 78-week period (18 months) after the week the child was born or placed for the purpose of adoption. Weekly benefit rate is 33% of your average insurable earnings up to a maximum payment of $343 per week (in 2020). Extended parental benefits can be claimed only if your child was born or placed with you for the purpose of adoption on or after December 3, 2017. |

Eligibility for SEIB is based on conditions outlined in the Faculty (UWOFA) Collective Agreement and the Librarians & Archivists Collective Agreement. For full details please refer to the agreement that applies to your union group.
