Protection of Physical Safety

 

Protection of physical safety is present when the workplace is proactive in addressing physical hazards that help employees feel safe. This is a video created by Ottawa Public Health and the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and adapted with permission from Mindful Employer Canada. (time - 4:20)

Safety is paramount. Everyone has a role in keeping the workplace safe.

What can I do as an employee?

  • Complete all mandatory training
  • Ask questions if you are unsure of any procedures or protocols
  • Report any safety concerns to your supervisor
  • Submit accident/illness/incident forms to Rehabilitation Services
  • Attend optional training sessions 
  • Ensure proper use of equipment by reading training manuals
  • Before working with chemicals, read the GHS/MSDS sheets
  • Remember that you have the right to refuse unsafe work

What can I do as a manager or supervisor?

  • Be familiar with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Identify hazards, assess risks and control measure with OH&S
  • Maintain an open-door policy and encourage employee to voice concerns
  • Verify that all employees have completed and are current with training
  • Ensure that all employees know how to report incidents
