Chemistry Building – Modernization of Synthetic Laboratory Facilities

As part of a multi-year phased approach to the renewal of instruction and research laboratories in Chemistry, two labs have already been upgraded. The proposed third phase involves the renewal of laboratories in rooms 209 through 213. The scope includes fume hood upgrades, increased ventilation capacity, electrical infrastructure upgrades, replacement of cabinetry and work benches, and improved layout to accommodate fifteen graduate students and ten undergraduate thesis students.

- Dental Sciences 3rd floor level (Rms. 3000-3006 ) will be renovated to meet the demand for new research space.
- Demolition wraps up in mid-October, making way for renovations to begin.
- A renovation contractor will be awarded prior to the end of the calendar year.
- The new space is scheduled for completion in Summer 2016.

Family Medicine

- Will be approx. 66,000 square feet
- Targeting LEED® Silver Cetification
- Family Medicine will be on Ground and second floors, the third and fourth floors will be for the Graduate Program in Public health and the Schulich School of Medicine
- Will be used for advanced education and training for family medicine physicians and will act as a hub for family medicine research
- Will have break rooms, and clinical trials suite, and 150-seat classrooms

- Located at the former Althouse College Parking lot

- Will be complete with lounges, study rooms and a dining facility
- The building is targeting LEED® silver

- Joint venture between the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical technology and Dieffenbacher from Germany, and the faculty of Engineering
- Houses a large industrial press, along with other composite manufacturing process lines, a research lab and ancillary spaces
- Total project value is $3.4 million
