The Bank of Canada

The Bank of Canada is the nation's central bank.

The Governor's Award provides financial support to academics who are recognized for their expertise and research in areas important to the .

The award consists of a $30,000 annual research grant for a term of up to two years, subject to an annual review and confirmation process.

Competitive candidates for the award have demonstrated excellence and innovation in their work as indicated by publications, citations and other research outputs, and have a record for leadership within the discipline and/or academic institution. Their work is also applicable to Bank of Canada  as indicated in a match of the nominee's written work and research plan with Bank plans and priorities.

Eligibility

Fellowship Award nominees are required to:

  • be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or be otherwise legally permitted to work in Canada
  • conduct and support research in Economics or Finance in Canada (nominations where the majority of the research is in Canada could also be considered)
  • have obtained a PhD within 10 years of their nomination
  • be employed by a Canadian university in an associate or assistant professor during the term of the Fellowship Award

Nomination Process

A complete nomination includes:

  • Cover page with the following information
    • Name, Position/title, Department
    • PhD information (year obtained and field of study)
    • Mailing address, phone number, and email address
    • Google Scholar ID Link and ORCID ID Link (optional)
  • Nomination letter (1-2 pages)
    • Signed by a representative of the university (typically, the Dean of the Faculty, Chair, or Director of the Department/School of Business, etc.) confirming that the nominee is in good standing and meets the eligibility requirements. 
  • Curriculum vitae including a summary listing the following, for the past 10 years:
    • Books and book chapters
    • Published and forthcoming articles in high impact peer-reviewed journals
    • Working papers
    • Conference presentations
    • Research grants and awards
    • Do not include: Papers in progress, reprinted articles, attendance at a conference (unless a speaker or presenter)
  • Research program and plan (max. 6 pages)
    • Describe the nominee’s current research program and the research planned during the period of the award, including references and works cited.
  • Recent paper and four abstracts
    • Provide a copy of a recent paper by the nominee, together with abstracts of four additional papers (may be published or unpublished and authored or co-authored).
  • Letter of Reference (not required)

Please keep in mind that the Nominating Committee is comprised of multidisciplinary and non-academic expertise.
