General Scholarships

Edna Jeffery Scholarships Awarded for the highest standing in second year of an Honours Specialization in Psychology, Computer Science, Philosophy, or Kinesiology or an Honours Bachelor degree in a double Major which includes a Major offered by the Department of Languages and Cultures. These awards were bequeathed to the University by the late Mrs. Edna Jeffery. $500
Professor Antonio M. Marti Scholarship

Awarded annually to a Faculty of Arts and Humanities undergraduate student completing fourth year in any Languages and Cultures program, based on academic performance (minimum 80% average). The scholarship committee in the Department of Languages and Cultures will select the recipient. This scholarship was established with a generous gift from the Estate of Mrs. Hanna Marti (MLS ’79, MA ’69 Spanish), in honour of her husband, Professor Antonio M. Marti.

Hanna was born in Europe and met Antonio, while studying in Spain. They immigrated to Ontario, where she studied at 澳门六合彩开奖预测 and began working in the School of Library and Information Science as a specialist in rare books. Antonio taught in the Department of Modern Languages and Literature at 澳门六合彩开奖预测 for over three decades, published widely, and served in a variety of senior administrative positions, including Assistant Vice President Academic and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages. Hanna will be remembered as an exceptionally talented linguist who was totally at home in Finnish, Swedish, Spanish and English. Hanna Martí died in 2018, predeceased by Antonio in 2007.

German Language Scholarships

Raymond Immerwahr Award for Excellence in German Awarded to a student entering the third or fourth year of an Honours Bachelor degree with either an Honours Specialization in German Language and Literature or a double Major including German who achieves the highest average marks (80% minimum) in two senior German courses. $1,800
Renata Purekevich Scholarship Awarded to a student registered in a Four Year degree program which includes an Honours Specialization, Specialization or Major in German who obtained the highest mark in German 1030, 1030W/X, 2200 or 2200W/X in the prior year. $300
Special German Scholarship Awarded to a student registered in a Four Year degree program which includes an Honours Specialization, Specialization or Major in German who obtained the highest mark in German 2200 or 2200W/X in the prior year. $1,100

Spanish Language Scholarships

Alfred Edward Hathaway Petrie Scholarship Awarded annually to the full-time undergraduate student who has achieved the highest standing in first-year Spanish and who is registered to continue in an Honours Specialization, Major or Specialization in Spanish. Students whose first language is Spanish are not eligible. Final selection will be made by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Scholarship Committee. $550
Marguerite and Harry W. Hilborn Undergraduate Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student entering a Major or Honours Specialization in a Spanish module, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average). The scholarship committee in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities will select the recipient. This scholarship was established by a generous gift from the Estate of Dr. Kenneth H. Hilborn, in memory of his parents Marguerite and Harry W. Hilborn and in recognition of his father's distinguished career as a professor of Spanish language and literature.

Professor Kenneth Hilborn taught courses in History and International Relations at The University of 澳门六合彩开奖预测 Ontario for 36 years from 1961 to 1997. He was a graduate of Queen's University (Kingston) and the University of Oxford (England). His love of both history and his students led him to establish this award in the hope that future students would receive the support they need to complete their studies. Professor Hilborn retired in 1997 from The University of 澳门六合彩开奖预测 Ontario. He died in 2013 at age 79.
