Admission options
to the Faculty of Education for students in French Studies

You may take one of two routes of entry to the Bachelor of Education program at the Faculty of Education at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â.

  • Apply to the Faculty of Education during the fall term of the fourth year of the Honours Bachelor degree.
  • For admission to the , students must complete the Bachelor degree requirements AND must meet all other requirements for the specific program to which they are applying.
  • Requirements for the Primary/Junior French, Junior/Intermediate French, and Intermediate/Senior French as a Second Language programs can be found on the .

Direct Pathway to the Faculty of Education is offered to Department of French Studies students interested in the Initial Teacher Education Program, P/J, J/I, or I/S French – Second Language.

Students interested in teaching at the Primary/Junior level should apply to the Faculty of Education through the regular process.

Admission Requirements for the Initial Teacher Education Program, P/J, J/I, or I/S French – Second Language

  • Applicants must complete their programs of study by August 31 of the year in which they plan to begin the Initial Teacher Education program. Degrees must be conferred no later than the Fall of year one of the Initial Teacher Education program.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed the equivalent of 10.0 university courses at the time of application. Transfer credits from community colleges and CEGEP will not be accepted.
  • Applicants must have a minimum weighted average of 75% in their best 10.0 undergraduate courses (or the equivalent) as well as a minimum weighted average of 75% in their best 5.0 undergraduate French courses (or the equivalent). Courses taken in the year of application cannot be included in the calculation of the overall average or the French course average but will be counted in support of program requirements.
  • Applicants to the Initial Teacher Education. program in the Primary/Junior French and Junior/Intermediate options must also have completed at least 0.5 course in at least four of the six general background subject areas of English, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Health & Physical Education, Mathematics, Science, Social Science/Humanities).
  • Applicants to the Initial Teacher Education program in the Intermediate/Senior area must also have completed the equivalent of at least 3.0 courses, with a weighted average of 70%, to support a second teaching subject. The following second teaching subjects are expected* to be available: Economics, English, Environmental Science, Family Studies, Geography, History, Law, Mathematics, Music (Instrumental), Music (Vocal), Philosophy, Political Science, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Physics, Social Science, and Religious Education (for which the equivalent of 5.0 undergraduate courses is required).
  • Applicants must successfully complete EDUC 2200 Perspectives on Schooling. (This course may be in progress at the time of Initial Teacher Education application, but must be completed before the Initial Teacher Education Program begins)
  • To be eligible for admission, all applicants must complete the CASPer assessment and achieve a minimum z-score of -1.5.

In addition to applying through the Department of French Studies for the Direct Pathway, students must also apply directly to the Initial Teacher Education Program at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â

Applying through the Department of French Studies:

  • Students enrolled in a 3-year bachelor degree should apply at the end of their 2nd year;
  • Students enrolled in a 4-year bachelor degree should apply at the end of their 3rd year;
  • The application form is available between May 15th and September 15th.
