The School of Kinesiology Alumni of Distinction Award

Recognizes an alum who demonstrates significant impact in one or more of the following areas:

  • Professional achievement
    • The recipient is dedicated to their chosen profession and goes above and beyond in their line of work; they are a role model in their profession and this impact reaches groups, individuals, and/or their larger chosen profession
  • Significant contributions to research and/or education
    • The recipient stands out in the field of research as having made compelling and impactful progress towards the advancement of their discipline, and is committed to continuing their learning and education either through everyday practice or higher education
  • Commitment to community and leadership

David "Patch" Patchell-Evans, BA’77, LLD’12

David "Patch" Patchell-EvansFounder and CEO, GoodLife Fitness, Patch is a lifelong entrepreneur with a drive for growth and a relentless commitment to give everyone in Canada the opportunity to live a fit and healthy good life.

Since he opened his first gym in 1979, Patch has grown the GoodLife group of clubs to include Goodlife Fitness, Fit4Less, Éconofitness and canfitpro. He also owns the CityFitness, the largest fitness club chain in New Zealand, and is a significant partner in Oxygen Yoga & Fitness and GYMVMT in Canada, and REVO Fitness in Australia.

Over the years, Patch has donated more than $40 million to support organizations and programs that have fueled breakthroughs in how we understand cardiovascular health. His investment of time and funds has helped build research and resources for families and children affected by autism and reinforce specialized programs that connect thousands of children and youth with special needs with physical activity.

Patch has also received many business honours including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, and the Medal of Honour from the Canadian Medical Association for his contributions to medical research. Patch was named Canada’s Most Admired CEO, Canadian Business Magazine’s Most Innovative CEO; and the Ernst & Yonge Entrepreneur of the Year. Under his leadership, GoodLife has been one of Canada’s Best Managed companies for 20+ years.

Patch has a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of 澳门六合彩开奖预测 Ontario. In 2012, 澳门六合彩开奖预测 awarded him a Doctor of Laws degree to acknowledge his achievements as a fitness entrepreneur, his community service and his support of autism research.
