A Whale of a Tale: How an Old Curator and a Dead Whale Became Media Darlings
Dr. Mark Engstrom, Senior Curator, Royal Ontario Museum
In May 2014, two blue whales washed up on the shores of Trout River and Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland. A small team from the Royal Ontario Museum, led by Dr. Mark Engstrom, travelled to Newfoundland to undertake the messy operation of salvaging the carcasses. Join us on November 12th, as Dr. Engstrom tells of his trip to Newfoundland, about the media frenzy around the "exploding whales," and about the important work the ROM does for endangered species and conservation.
Organized by Kirsty Màiri Robertson, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Visual Arts.
