(The) archive: Kate Tarini - Artlab
(The) archive: Kate Tarini
September 18 – Oct. 2, 2014
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 18, 2014, 6:00PM – 8:00PM
This work in-process exhibition deals with the architecture of the archive. PhD candidate Kate Tarini questions the representation of the archive in visual culture, specifically within photography, which includes the active role of the photographer involved in the (re)production of information for the archive. Working to unpack societies preoccupation with archiving and the desire to forget nothing, this exhibit of photographs functions within the history of the medium’s ability to capture and confine. Moreover, her work specifically deals with the importance of landscape surveys, which rely on authenticity, and it’s connection to the archive. Working through problems of documentation, the construction of history, and the fragility of the physical objects involved, Tarini expands the dialogue by questioning the difference between material and digital-based production, methods of storage, and how these changes have fueled an increased awareness of the archive.
