REPORT OF THE OPERATIONS/AGENDA COMMITTEE

FOR APPROVAL

1. Constitution of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry

Recommended: That, effective January 1, 2002, section 1. of the Constitution of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry be amended as follows, to recognize the change of the name of the Department of Anaesthesia to "Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine" subject to Senate's approval of the name change (SCUP Report, Exhibit III, item 1).

1. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry shall consist of the following:
(1) The Departments of Anaesthesia, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine, Biochemistry, Clinical Neurological Sciences, Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Family Medicine, History of Medicine, Medical Biophysics, Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physiology, Psychiatry, Surgery and
(2) The School of Dentistry
Requests to establish, dissolve or change the name of a Department/School shall be initiated by the Council of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and submitted to Senate for approval.

Background:

The Department of Anaesthesia, the Joint Medical Advisory Committee (London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London), and the Council of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry have approved the recommendation that the Department name be changed to "Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine". Reasons for the renaming are: (1) To properly define the Department's mission in the modern provision of perioperative anesthesia care, treatment of the critically ill and pain management, at the highest level of excellence through exemplary clinical practice, education and research; and (2) To reflect the current era in the structural and functional changes in health care delivery and practice of anesthesia.

[The proposal to change the name of the Department will be channeled through SCUP to Senate, parallel with the proposal to amend the Faculty's constitution.]

2. Amendments to the Constitution of the Faculty of Graduate Studies

Recommended: That the Constitution of the Faculty of Graduate Studies be amended as shown in Appendix 1, specifically, sections 2.0, 9.0, 12.0, 12.1, 13.0 and 13.1.

Background:

Section 2.0 has been updated to reflect changes in programs offered at the graduate level, as approved by the Senate. Changes to the other sections have been approved by the approved by the Council of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, with some minor editing by Operations/Agenda for clarity and consistency of language.
