ITEMS REFERRED BY SENATE

FOR APPROVAL

1. Strategic Planning Task Force: Terms of Reference and Composition

Recommended: That, subject to Senate approval [September 22, 2000], the Strategic Planning Task Force Terms of Reference and Composition be approved as shown below:

Strategic Planning Task Force

Building on Leadership in Learning, the Task Force will bring the University's strategic planning up to date in light of new and evolving issues, with a time horizon to 2010. The Task Force will hold public meetings and invite written submissions from the University and the external community. The Task Force will seek to distribute a draft report by the Spring of 2001 and to submit a final report for approval by Senate and the Board in September 2001.

The Task Force report will indicate key initiatives which the University should undertake in support of its mission, vision, and basic principles, in such areas as enrolment planning, recruitment, retention, and support of faculty, staff, and students; building on strength in research and teaching; undergraduate curriculum; student leadership; lifelong learning; the use of technology in teaching and learning; alumni relations; private funding; relationships with the people of London and with other external communities; research partnerships with the private sector; °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â's identity in a competitive institutional environment.

The composition of the Task Force will be as follows:

• President, who shall Chair the Task Force

• Provost & Vice-President (Academic)

• Four persons named by the Board, including an alumna or alumnus of the University

• Seven persons named by Senate, including an undergraduate student and a graduate student

• One faculty member named by UWOFA

• One staff member named by the Board of Governors on recommendation by the Presidents of the non-faculty employee groups

• One member named by the President

The Vice-President (Administration) and General Counsel, the Vice-President (Research), the Vice-President (External), and the Director of Institutional Planning & Budgeting will serve as resource persons. The Executive Assistant to the President will serve as Secretary to the Task Force.

2. Affiliation Agreements:

2a. Terms of Affiliation Agreement: The University of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â Ontario and Brescia College, Huron College and King's College

Recommended: That, subject to Senate approval [September 22, 2000], the Affiliation Agreement for The University of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â Ontario and Brescia College, Huron University College and King's College be revised to include reference to the new Master of Theological Studies program at St. Peter's Seminary, as shown below:

9.(a)(i) All students taking the theology programs offered by Huron University College leading to the deg ree Master of Divinity (MDiv) or Master of Theological Studies (MTS) are required to register in that College. All students taking Theology programs offered by St. Peter's Seminary leading to the degree Master of Divinity (MDiv) or Master of Theological Studies (MTS) are required to register in the Seminary.

and, to revise the reference to Huron College to read Huron University College throughout the document.

Background:

The agreement will be revised to include reference to the new Master of Theological Studies program at King's College which was approved by Senate on April 14th.

In late June, Huron College received Royal Assent to a new Huron College Act, integral to which was a change in the name of the College to Huron University College. The agreement will be revised to show this name change throughout. 2b. Terms of Affiliation Agreement: The University of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â Ontario, King's College and St. Peter's Seminary

Recommended: That, subject to Senate approval [September 22, 2000], the Affiliation Agreement for The University of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ô¤²â Ontario and King's College and St. Peter's Seminary, be revised to:

1. Change the reference to SCAPA and Huron College in point 2 (d):

"...Curriculum changes shall initially be approved by a joint committee consisting of the full-time theological teaching faculties of Huron University College and St. Peter's Seminary then forwarded for the information of the Registrar of the Constituent University. Policy issues or proposals for new or discontinued programs will be directed to the Senate Committee on Academic Policy and Admission Awards (SCAPA)."

2. Delete the reference to the Faculty of Part-Time and Continuing Education in point 13 (a):

"All rights and powers hereinbefore referred to as being possessed and exercisable by the University, its Board of Governors , its Senate, its Registrar, its Faculty of Part-Time and Continuing Education and its Dean, and its Faculty are hereby conferred on such bodies, organizations and persons; and..."

Background:

King's College: New Theology Programs for St. Peter's Seminary

Effective September 1, 2000, a Master of Theological Studies program and an Advanced Master of Divinity degree will be introduced at St. Peter's Seminary.
