Direct Pathway Agreement with Education

Each year, The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) will provide the Faculty of Education with Initial Teacher Education Program candidates selected from qualified graduates.

 

To qualify for direct pathway to the Initial Teacher Education Program via SMSS, applicants must:

  • Complete a Four-year BSc or Honours BSc degree by August 31 of year one of the Initial Teacher Education Program. The degree must include an Honours Specialization, Specialization or Major module offered by the Department of Mathematics or by the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences and must be conferred no later than the fall of year one of the Initial Teacher Education Program.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed the equivalent of 10 full university courses at the time of application. Transfer credits from community colleges and CEGEP will not be accepted.
  • Applicants must have a minimum average of 75% in their best 10 full undergraduate courses (or the equivalent) as well as a minimum average of 75% in their best 5 full undergraduate Mathematics or Statistics courses (or the equivalent). Courses taken in the year of application cannot be included in the calculation of the overall average or the Mathematics course average but will be counted in support of program requirements.
  • All Math and Applied Math courses numbered 1000 and higher are eligible to be included, as well as Calculus 1000A/B, 1500A/B, 1301A/B, 1501A/B, 2302A/B, 2402A/B, 2502A/B, 2303A/B, 2503A/B.
  • The current list of eligible Statistical and Actuarial Sciences courses is: Act Sci 2553 A/B, 2427 A/B, 3424 A/B, 3431 A/B, 4824 A/B, Data Science 3000 A/B, Fin Mod 3520 A/B, 3613 A/B, 3817 A/B, 4521 A/B and  Stats 2857 A/B,2858 A/B, 3657 A/B, 3843 A/B, 3858 A/B, 3859 A/B, 3860 A/B, 4850 A/B, 4860 A/B, 4861 A/B, 4864 A/B.
  • Applicants must also have completed the equivalent of at least 3 full courses, with a weighted average of 70%, to support a second teaching subject. The following second teaching subjects are expected* to be available: Economics, English, Environmental Science, Family Studies, French, Geography, History, Law, Music(Instrumental), Music(Vocal), Philosophy, Political Science, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Physics, Social Science, and Religious Education (note that for either French or Religious Education as a second teaching subject, the equivalent of 5 full undergraduate courses is required).
  • Apply to the Faculty of Education through OUAC/TEAS. -
  • Applicants must successfully complete EDUC 2200 Perspectives on Schooling. (This course may be in progress at the time of Initial Teacher Education. application, but must be completed before the Initial Teacher Education begins)
  • All applicants must complete the CASPer assessment and achieve a minimum z-score of -1.5. Testing takes place directly through the CASPer site. You will require your OUAC/TEAS Reference Number and government-issued ID to sign up for CASPer. You will receive your OUAC/TEAS Reference Number after you submit your TEAS application. CASPer results are sent directly to the Faculty of Education at 澳门六合彩开奖预测 by the CASPer agency.
  • Be selected for direct pathway by The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. A maximum of ten qualified SMSS direct pathway candidates are allowed each year.
