Areas of Research- Sport history
- Olympic history
- The economics of the Olympic Games
- The Gold in the Rings: The People and Events that Transformed the Olympics
The fascinating financial history of selling the Olympics. Once a showcase for amateur athletics, the Olympic Games have become a global entertainment colossus powered by corporate sponsorship and professional participation. Stephen R. Wenn and Robert K. Barney offer the inside story of this transformation by examining the far-sighted leadership and decision-making acumen of four International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidents: Avery Brundage, Lord Killanin, Juan Antonio Samaranch, and Jacques Rogge. Blending biography with historical storytelling, the authors explore the evolution of Olympic commercialism from Brundage's uneasy acceptance of television rights fees through the revenue generation strategies that followed the Salt Lake City bid scandal to the present day. Throughout, Wenn and Barney draw on their decades of studying Olympic history to dissect the personalities, conflicts, and controversies behind the Games' embrace of the business of spectacle.

- Guideline development: Management of Persistent Symptoms post TBI
- Research collaborations with the London Brain Consortium
- Representative for the ONF on the Canadian Concussion Collaborative
- Concussion Electronic Data Capture System. The purpose of this study is to create one centralized research database of concussion patient and healthy baseline control information at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic to be used for future research into the SCAT5, a common diagnostic tool for concussion. This database will have the potential to be used in future research studies to evaluate the psychometric properties of the SCAT5 which can be used to inform clinical practice in the area of sport-related concussion.

Areas of Research- Sport, exercise and rehabilitation psychology
- Imagery, self-efficacy, motivation, self-presentation and exercise identity
- Masters athlete participation
- Studying social benefits of sport for older adults
Four members of SSIRG, Craig Hall, Alison Doherty, Angela Schneider and Glen Belfry, were awarded a two-year $20,000 grant from the Faculty of Health Sciences in the 2018 Emerging Team Grant competition. The objective of the research is to determine what benefits adults aged 65+ obtain by participating in competitive sport. Initial findings suggest these older adults report enhanced physical, psychological, cognitive, and social benefits from Masters sport participation.

Areas of Reseach- Research at the intersection between movement activities, social justice, and human development
- Cultural impact of the Paralympic movement and disability sport
- Holistic impact of participation in movement activities for people with disabilities
- PASCCAL (Paralympics social change and cultural impact). A multinational project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council in the UK. This research seeks to advance these benefits through collaborative/interdisciplinary/creative work that can reframe public and academic debates about para-sport representations, that can bridge the theory/practice/policy gap, that ensures elevated disabled voices, and that can provide maximum benefits for the public, policy makers, host cities, and media-practitioners. Further, the on-going, public, accessible and open communication embedded within the research, and integrated project documentary, will ensure the largest possible interdisciplinary and international user community for the research and project outcomes.
Amongst the most significant research products are an art exhibition entitled that brings Paralympic representations to life through art, and an original documentary (work in progress) on the experiences of Paralympic athletes and spectators.
I am currently working, with Dr. Laura Meisener, Dr. David Howe and others in the PASCCAL team on the critical analysis of the first humorist sports talk show on the Paralympics, the Channel 4 “The last leg”. A preliminary version of this discussion was presented at the in September 2018.
