Research
I teach and research in the area of late medieval literature, with a focus on Chaucer, Langland, and the religious culture of fourteenth-century England. My first book explored the penitential emotions of shame and guilt in Chaucer’s narrative poetry. I have articles published in The Chaucer Review, Studies in the Age of Chaucer, and PMLA, among others. I’m currently writing a book about the idea of debt in late medieval England.
I am happy to supervise graduate students interested in Middle English literature; affect theory and emotion history; medieval mysticism; and medieval economic thought.
